Question on car numbers

I have seen a few references on the forums to "DE2 numbers" or "DE3 numbers", etc. My car still has the numbers I got when I started in DE1, but now I'm in DE2 (and DE3 might be in the not-too-distant future ). Am I supposed to get new numbers each time I change groups? If so, do I just go pick them up at the office during registration?

They usually have DE numbers in the office/registration room.

I wouldnt necessarily call it a requirement cause I'm sure some people in 4 have 3 numbers and so on but it does make the grid crews life a lil easier in identifying that you are in the right group. If you want a new number, check in at registration for something generic or with Tom at Twisted Priorities. Tom can get you setup with numbers that you choose and in the style you would like. From there, when registering, just make sure to update your car number.

To piggy back off Ramin...

Yes, our preference for HPDE cars is to have the 1st number match the HPDE x level. While car numbers are available in registration I am looking to migrate away from the use of them. They look very nice and professional but they are so small that they are nearly impossible to use them for their main purpose (i.e. vehicle identification for the corner flaggers). They are hard enough to read from 25' away and even harder when the car is traveling at speed.

So, yes numbers are available in reg, but the ultimate preference is drivers supply their own numbers with contrasting colors and large enough so that they can be easily read while you're on track. Removable magnet numbers are a great option for street/track cars as is colored masking tape.

I'll look into getting some numbers made. Is there a list somewhere of numbers other people are using?

The chances of duplicate numbers and car color in HPDE is very rare so it's not worth maintaining a list. Plus folks move through the HPDE program rather quickly especially at the lower levels.

I would suggest, if you get numbers, make sure they are individual numbers and get a combination that will allow you to reuse them.

Example:

If you run "347" now, you can be "437" or "473" when you move to HPDE4. Then if you decide to do TT or Race group later, you'll then have 6 number choices all from your original investment.

Tom from Twisted Priorities makes car numbers and can usually do it at track for you. See me @ registration and I can point him out to you at the next event.
