After 12+ years of track driving and about half of those years serving NASA Arizona exceptionally well, Brady Dohrmann (TT Director) decided to "retire" from the sport we all love (and sometimes hate). Words can't describe the gratitude for Brady's leadership, rules expertise, tech support, download skills, event write ups/Who's Who articles, (sometimes) humorous/controversial banter on the forum and a ton of general admin support.

I want to wish all the best to Brady and hope that he becomes as competitive in his "ironman" quest (or whatever else his new hobby becomes) as he was in a race car.

The good news is we have already found a replacement. Effective immediately Eric Jacobsen will assume the role of TT Director along with Jeremy Renshaw to lead our local TT program. Eric's positive/professional attitude, soft skills, rules expertise and all around "nice guy" demeanor made him a perfect fit and an obvious choice.

Eric is a regular Time Trial competitor and is already well known in the TT community. Eric is one of our regular instructors and unfortunately his new role will limit his ability to instruct full time in the future. While not an optimal situation to have to "rob Peter to pay Paul" we feel the net overall result was the right thing to do and Eric will help the organization continue to grow even stronger than before.

Please help me congratulate Eric!

So I'm talking to this dude who lives up in Canada-eh and he said he took his car out on the RC for the first time. Darn near drop bricks when I saw his picks and heard his story. He's out there with his 06 GTO, no helmet, windows up and buddy in the passenger(no helmet) at full speed. Sounds bad enough until he tells me about the metal debris that flew off someones car and lands in the race line that everyone was swerving to avoid. He tells the track official and the response he got back was, "So? you wanna go get it?"

Tell me tracks really aren't run this way.

A couple of people were asking me about my phone this weekend so I thought I would share what I have learned. I have a Motorola Driod with the Trackaroo Trackmaster application ($10 I think). I have the cell mounted in the car and it displays fastest lap, elapsed time in the current lap, split time and last lap times with the last two displayed compared to the previous lap. It requires a little setup. You have to set up the start/finish line and any split markers you want with the application using google earth to mark them for every track. You also have to select which set of split markers to use when you get to the track. I have to turn on the logger/timer and start it so it will start logging automatically after I cross the start/fiinish line. I first used it with the phone's built in GPS. The lap times compared to transponder times were within 0.1 second. After I added a bluetooth external GPS ($55 for the unit and extra application) the results were within 0.03 seconds. The logger will display lap times, thoeretical best lap using the best split times and top speed of every lap along with tons of other information on the phone immediately after timing. It also can speak you lap times to you if you use a bluetooth headset. It can also Tweet your lap times in real time while on track! (I don't twitter)

Later I email an excel spreadsheet with tons of information to myself and make graphs and analize the data. When using only the phone's GPS it records 1 data point per second. This was not as useful as I had hoped. With the bluetooth GPS it records 5 data points per second (5Hz) and now I can see the speed loss during shifts and how much my speed varies in sweepers and is great information. However the G force information is slightly better than useless. I have borrowed a DL-1 which runs at 20Hz and has its own software for analizing data. The DL-1 G force information is extremely useful and the higher rate is unnessasary at my level of understanding but costs about 15 times as much.

Chuckwalla is closer than Inde? Ok from my house in Anthem Chuckwalla (that track along I-10 in california) is 3 hrs 57 minutues and 211 miles. Inde is 3 hrs 48 minutes and 233 miles.

Interesting fact...

Just Imagine if we could run a schedule like this.

Jan - AMP
Feb - Chuckwalla
March - PIR
April - Firebird Main
May - Inde
June - Firebird east
July - Firebird West
September - Inde
October - AMP
November - PIR(for thanksgiving of course!)

Wow that would be really cool. 7 differet tracks in the first 7 events? :thewave:

Yeah don't worry Tage this more of fantasy than reality, but one can dream right.

Before I was an instructor I remember a kid who showed up with a yellow modified 911 turbo. He even went and rebadged it as a GT2. He was walking around like he was the best driver ever and even refused to let the instructor drive the first couple laps because, as the kid said, "the instructor can't afford this car if he crashes it". As expected, he was totally inexperienced and slowed down a lot of cars on the track. During the off track time he would constantly talk about how he has gone 200mph.

That was the first time I ever saw somebody at the track driving with their radar detector on the windshield. I told him he could take it down because it is legal to speed on the track. He didn't find that funny.
