Fuel Rules for race group

I am not currently in a race group but aspire to it someday and am interested in the allowed fuel for the PT groups. The rules state commercially available unmodified gas. Does this only mean at retail fuel pumps which is usually 91 octane? What about the few stations offering the race 100 octane? Torco sells an accelerator that essentially boosts the octane to different levels but the rules state no fuel additives. Is that accelerator a fuel additive?
Assuming the 100 octane is allowed then what about mixing that with 91 octane to get something in between. That's not really an alcohol mixture so it doesn't fall into the "home brewed" category does it?

Here are the rules from the rule book:
1) Fuel: Any grade of commercially available unmodified gasoline or diesel--all octane levels
of retail available race gas are permitted. No “home brewed” methanol/ethanol/alcohol
mixtures are permitted. Methanol injection systems are illegal. Fuel additives are prohibited.

thanks for the help

Question on the TT dynos, since I'm hoping to move up sometime in the next few months here. I thought that all TT cars were required to have a dyno, but then I was reading section 6.1 of the rules and saw that it says that a dyno is not required prior to competition. So, is the requirement for all cars to have a dyno a local rule, or did I just make that requirement up?

Sorry for the long delay but here it is:

The Annual NASA AZ night event at Firebird International Raceway was quite an event for all those participating on track and those watching the event. This is one of most intense events of the year with three races in one day on two different tracks. Racing in the dark adds an extra dimension to the event. Honda Challenge had some close racing as the competitor’s lap times get closer and closer together. The format for the day was warm up, qualifying and a race at the West track followed by warm up, a qualifying race and the feature night race on the Main track. Three new drivers and one returning driver made their 2012 season debut in Honda Challenge. Welcome to Mervin Tan and Gabe Ortega of Team LBR, Mike Browning and Geri Amani.

The qualifying times of the top 6 drivers were covered by only 0.7 seconds on the West track. The grid for the race would be Simon Pavlick, Mike Browning, Eric Dayton, Tony Lisa, Ryan Denton, Leland F., Team LBR, Terry Denton and Doug Evans.

The racers would start from a flying start on the back straight on the West track with one driver kicking up quite a bit of dirt. This backed everyone up and resulted in a hectic first lap. By the time the dust settled, two cars pulled off the track and the order was Tony up 4 positions, Simon down one position, Eric up one position, Leland up 2 positions, Terry up 3 positions, Doug up 3 positions and Merv for Team LBR held position. Tony pulled off the track on Lap 4 under his own power with a sick engine turning over the lead to Simon. A disqualification after the race handed the win to Eric Dayton. Congratulations to Eric on his first Honda Challenge race win. Leland in second and Terry Denton in third rounded out the podium. The fast lap and Track Record went to Eric Dayton with a 1:07.781. Nice job!

The finishing results from the race on the West track set the grid for the qualifying race on the Main track in the light of day. This meant that fast drivers Mike and Ryan would start from the back. This time the Honda Challenge drivers would put their drag racing skills to the test on the main straightway that Firebird also uses for their ¼ mile drag strip. Mike and Ryan each made up one position on the start and by the time the first lap was complete Ryan came all the way from 6th to take the lead(wow), Eric dropped from 1st to 4th, Doug went from 4th to 5th, Team LBR went from 5th to 7th, Geri (driving Simon’s car) went from 7th to 8thand Mike went from 8th to 6th. The following lap Doug was passed by Mike and Team LBR. Then we had the first lap without passing. Next, Leland took the lead away from Ryan for the next two laps while Mike made it from 5th to 3rd, Eric and Terry swapped positions back and forth and Geri passed Doug for 7th. The following penultimate lap was our only other lap without passing. Geri managed a last lap pass on Team LBR to pick up one more spot for the feature race grid. The order for the start of the feature race would be Ryan, Leland, Mike, Terry, Eric, Geri, Gabe for Team LBR and Doug. Unfortunately Geri had mechanical difficulties after leaving the grid and did not take the start.

The feature race would take place in the dark from a standing start. The excitement level was high under the lights with the grand stands full of spectators. The engines were revved for the drop of the green Flag with a clean getaway for the 7 starters. Terry edged out Mike at the start but Mike was able to retake 3rd the following lap while Leland did the same for the lead until Ryan took it back. Meanwhile Eric passed Terry to take 4th. Two laps later Mike passes Leland to take 2nd. 9 laps later Eric passed Leland for 3rd and begins to chase down Mike. With 4 laps to go Team LBR passed Doug to take over the job of hounding Terry and waiting for a mistake. Team LBR’s opportunity came in the last corner of the last lap with a little lock up. Gabe took advantage of this small mistake and passed Terry putting Team LBR in 5th. A post race disqualification changed up the order a little and our final results are as follows: Ryan took his first win in Honda Challenge. Way to go Ryan! Leland finished 2nd, Team LBR finished 3rd, Terry finished 4th, Doug finished 5th and Mike finished 6th after an unfortunate incident. Mike had the fastest lap with a 1:08.487. Great lap Mike!

For those of us racers who didn't make it down to Willcox, and weren't able to see and/or hear why penalties were assessed, I think it would be helpful to hear what happened. I'm not looking to out anyone by any means. But as a rookie, I want to keep learning, especially when I'm off track.

Hi everyone,
My name is Adam & I got started in NASA-AZ 5ish years ago. The first event I did was out @ PIR back then when that track was still avaliable. Shurly was my HPDE1 instructer & I had a great time in my mildly upgraded Nissan 300zxTT.
During the end of the second of 3 sessions I blew all 4 of my stock 20 year old shocks & experianced a gread deal of wheel hop exiting the sharp left hand turn leading to the bankds turn & then into the back straight. Because of this I needed to respectfully get out of the way of the other drivers & soon after leave the coarse.
Before I could return to another NASA AZ event I moved out to SoCal to work for a company that specifically worked on the vehicle I owned, Z32s. During that tiem I got more into drag racing, since thats what that company was much more about & never made it out to a road coarse. I met a lot of great people during that time & the oppertunity of working there was the catalyst that pushed me in the direction I have gone today.
When I moved back to AZ I continued to drag race a little bit & have done pretty well for what I'm working with. I have been wanting to get back onto the road coarse, but my car has been in a state of limbo for the last year. During that time I (with a great deal of help from John & Matty @ Future Fab) created a custom equal length tubular manifold with twin Borg Warner EFR6258 turbos. I'm very excited about this setup.
I was able to return to the track for the March event of 2012 in HPDE1. I had buttoned up my car the night before & spent 3 hours on the dyno tuning it to a conservative 470whp @15psi, with very conservative timing on 91 pump fuel. I ran 100 octane at the track with "street pads & my street alignment. After all its about safe, fun, learning & progressing. I had a great deal of fun at the event. Once again the 20 year old car showed its age & developed an oil leak that I beleive to be the power steering return line. Under the heat & pressure it was enough to warrent leaving the track.
Unable to run my 4th session I was a bit bumbed, but I was granted to abelity to move up to HPDE2 for the next session, which I'm very happy about. With more free time I went to the grand stands to what my good buddy John in his Red Z32 for the night session.
From my perspectative I would just loose sight of his car right before he went off track & rolled 3 & a half times. Lots of frantic comoshion later he is off to the hospital. Fast forward a coule weeks & john is in great shape thanks to a well build roll bar from Junior @ Fathead Fabrication.
John is now building a new Red Z32 with a full cage & that experiance led me to picking up a second white Z32 chassis to do the same with.
I had planned to weld in a full 8.5 second certified cage 2with keeping the interior & AC in to my "other car", but now I am going in a different direction. I will be gutting the interior & focusing on safety, suspension development, aerodynamics & weight reduction over power. As it sits my twin turbo setup is capable of 800-900whp when I turn it up to 30+psi, I really don't need that much for the road coares anyways.
My goal is to run in the August event with the new build. I will start a little thread of my progress.
It's been great to meet so many friendly people in the NASA-AZ Family. I'm looking forward to meeting many more of you & becoming more active out @ the track. If if ever see a white 300zx (Z32), who is not Brett, feel free to stop by & say Hi.

Hey guys (and gals!)

Justin and I have been working non-stop to pull together a website and I am still editing all of the pictures from INDE last weekend. I shot 3000+ photos over the weekend, so as you can imagine, it's been a tedious process to sort and edit that kind of volume. I did get Sunday session as well...

I am happy to report that the results are better than I had anticipated and I got some great shots.

Anyway, I hope that you'll all be patient as this is a "work in progress" site, but I really want to get the photos out there, along with galleries from other NASA events.

For now I have posted a couple of "teasers" on my facebook page...
www.facebook.com/PhotographyBySelina Hope you all enjoy!

I will let you know as soon as the real website it up... hopefully by the end of the weekend!

Thanks

This last weekend was another NASA AZ success.

The new configuration 3 was awesome!

I don't know if you guys noticed, but the track staff was incredibly attentive in keeping the place clean and well stocked - frequently emptying the paddock trash, wiping down the bathrooms, etc. I've never seen track staff with such attention to these small details. Having nice facilities at the track definitely helps the enjoyment - especially having a well kept bathroom with a hot shower after a day in the sun at the track.

The NASA staff, as usual, was first class. Thank you to NASA AZ and Chef Gordon & staff for the excellent Cinco meal. Also to the grid workers and corner workers for standing out in the sun all day for us.

Like a fine well run hotel, the NASA staff does an incredible amount of work in the background that goes unnoticed, simply because the operation runs so smooth. Thank you!

cheers,

I am in DE4 and at some point would like to make the move to TT. I have an '05 Z51 (Base class TTA +7). It looks like I may need to replace my front shocks (because they have 82k miles on them), and want to avoid picking up an unnecessary points that would up-class me.

With that said, do I have to go through the dealership to get replacements or can I put any monotube on there like Edelbrock or Bilstein? They don't have external reservoirs or "piggy-back" reservoirs specifically mentioned in 6.4.E, nor are they modified/re-valved etc. The Bilstein Sport Shocks appear to be the same size, shape, and functional characteristics of those which came with my Z51 suspension (as outlined in 6.6), but are obviously going to be of better reliability/longevity over a factory product.

Survey says?

Hello, all! I now have pictures available for viewing and purchase from Saturday, May 5th at Inde. Got some really nice shots, so be sure to check them out. I have separated them out by each group so they're easier to find what you want.

Here is a direct link:
http://www.racersphoto.com/f604277149

There are digital download and online printing options. You can purchase individual shots starting at a web resolution at $5 each, or we have a package called a "private gallery" where $60 gets you 5-8 original resolution images that you can download. To purchase a private gallery, just select one of the images you want and then email to me the other images you want to include, or let me pick them. If you would like ALL of your images for that day, email me.

Hope you like them!
My grandmother is selling her dealership-maintained 1997 BMW M3 4-door, 6-cyl 3.2L with only 37,000 miles of Arizona driving. 5-speed with full options offered for that year. It is silver exterior with 2-tone gray 'M' interior. She's asking $13,000 for it. It can be seen in Scottsdale area. I don't have any pictures as of now because she decided to post it for sale this weekend while I was at INDE. I'll try to get some up soon. PM me for more details!

Corvette TPMS/Kart Wheels/Programmer

corvette TPMS sensors/Kart Wheels/Programmer:

KTi P.S.T. Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (TPMS) + 4 lightweight Kart wheels with tires + C6 TPMS...

corvette TPMS sensors/Kart Wheels/Programmer:

KTi P.S.T. Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (TPMS) + 4 lightweight Kart wheels with tires + C6 TPMS sensors mounted in them + extra sensors for $500

I kept these 4 light weight Kart tires in the rear of the corvette with the TPMS sensors in them. This made changing wheels very easy. I did not have to reprogram when placing track wheels/tires on my C6 corvette. The expensive TPMS sensors are easily damaged during tire removal and mounting, so I was not having to replace damaged TPMS sensors. Also, the thinner kart tires allowed for easy reprogramming when needed.

All of this because the C6 will go into "limp mode" if the TPMS is not working.

I replaced my stock electrical system on my c6 corvette - which is a full race class track car only. Therefore, I no longer need my Kart tires with TPMS sensors and the re programmer.

the KTi P.S.T. TPMS re programmer itself is about $450. I am selling the whole package for $500 and includes extra TPMS sensors. One tire has a slow leak over days. All wheels, tires and the re-programer in very good shape. They are available for pick up in the Phoenix area. Shipping in the U.S. flat rate of $50.

please email me at jiggyracing@aol.com if interested and for pictures.

Thank you for looking and happy racing.

AWESOME event everyone! I know myself and Tony can agree, you all stepped up to the plate to help cut down time and keep things smooth. Big thanks to the Snail guys, specifically Jerome for jumping in to run grid'n'launch, you rock man! I think this was probably our smoothest event yet this year, everyone had 0 problems with transponders as well!

That being said, next up is the June 3rd (Sunday) event at FIR East, see everyone there!

FYI: Thought it'd be cool to mention that I'm posting this while were still on the road, Tony up front, Adina towing the radical behind us, about 20 miles from Tucson. I love Verizon tethering ;).

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm gonna claim this post is related to "tire tech"... ;)

I just ordered a set of BFG g-Sport Comp-2's for my '11 STI sedan. *245/40ZR18* I'm running in HPDE2 this weekend and my stock Dunlops are toast. I read some really good reviews and saw a BFG video on YouTube promoting the Comp-2's as much better than the Hankook or Dunlop equivalent.... better at 'everything' to be exact.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with these BFG's on street and/or track. Tires are going on tomorrow, and I'm hoping to be able to break them in before Saturday, but I thought I'd ask around here and see if anyone here has any input on these.

Thanks,

Chris

With the triple digit temps just around the corner, we will have our final class in this area on May 12. Look for summer time class's in Northern Arizona coming soon!

This being TSDS's first full year, NASA-AZ with Arizona Motorsport Park (AMP) and The West Valley View Paper, along with all of those that have volunteered for the different classes to instruct or help out are very pleased with the end results. The letters and comments from parents and students let us know that we are doing this right! But mostly to see first hand the student's abilities and confidence improving throughout the one day class let's us know that we as a Team are lowering the percentages of an accident!

Pass the word to family or friends that can use this training and if you have any questions or comments, please go to our web site or contact me directly.

I have a BNIB Sparco Jade Size M suit for sale. It was purchased for another NASA member but they acquired one elsewhere so I have this one just sitting at my store ready for a new owner!

Selling price is 269.99 + tax.
Size M 140-150lbs and roughly 5'10 in height. I actually wear a Size M myself and weight around 125lbs and fit in it comfortably without a ton of material hanging out (The height is more important).

The price is non-negotiable unfortunetly but I think its a pretty fair price!

I can get other sizes too but need this one gone to start with!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am contacting your Club to share details about an upcoming Special SCCA Autocross Event May 13th (Sunday) at Firebird Raceway, Lot #4. We are always open to non-members, but will be creating for this event a few extra classes to accommodate drivers and cars from other Clubs; Like a special Mini Class, BWM Class, and, how about a Special NASA "Class"? You would compete together, not in our usual classes.

The format is unique from our typical events, as there will be three practice runs, followed by a fourth scored run. All will be timed, but only that last run will count for position. Thus the special title for this event....ONE SHOT!

Please share this info with any of your members that might have an interest; My contact info is below should more details be needed.

Thanks for your assistance. Please spread the word.
